Context

Why The African Pulse, its approach and innovative resources are needed:

• Children have been inundated with ineffective messaging around HIV/AIDS which has now led to AIDS fatigue. New ways to engage children in the topic are needed.
• Teachers are overworked and intimidated by the role of delivering HIV/AIDS education. Tools to support and motivate them are required.
• Children learn most about these issues through the media and from school. These two platforms need to be better integrated to create effective learning.
• HIV/AIDS and life-skills education do not get enough scheduled time in the classroom. Integrated methods such as Feroza’s Story need to be introduced to ensure the message is delivered.
